Square metre gardening for beginners

The course date is: FRIDAY 19th May 2023 From 10 am to 4.30pm

with 30 minutes for lunch

Square metre gardening has been around so long, it used to be square yard gardening! This course explores the amazing amount of fruit and veg that you can grow and harvest all year round in a small, low maintenance space. This beginner level course introduces novice growers to basic gardening skills using the square metre principle. All the skills learnt on this course can be used on a bigger plot.

What the course covers:

·         Measuring and marking out your plot

·         Ground cover to clear your plot

·         No dig theory

·         Designing and planning your plot

·         Sources of seeds

·         Growing theory and practical planting

·         Plant care & pest control

·         Watering systems

·         Planting out

·         Harvesting theory & practice

·         Seed saving

·         Weather protection and seasonal planning

The course takes place at Farm School, at Shillingford Organic Farm in the beautiful Devon countryside: Learning sessions will be both outdoors and in our sheltered polytunnel. Warm clothing and sturdy footwear is essential You will have a chance to have an abundance of questions answered during the day.  Please bring your own packed lunch.

Absolutely no experience of gardening is necessary; the course is also designed for people both with and without a garden. Tools will be provided on site and some practical work is involved.  The course is taught by a qualified gardener and passionate vegetable grower.

Cost for the day including tea or coffee is £75 Places are very exclusive

What do I need to bring?

Clothing suitable for the weather as we learn outdoors. Gardening gloves and stout footwear are essential.

We will offer a hot drink during the session..
